Some Assorted Winston Churchill Quotes on Free Enterprise…

All of us whom are free owe a portion of our gratitude to Winston Churchill who understood the nature of freedom far better than some of his more supposedly “enlightened” brethren of his day.  He also understood the fundamental threats to freedom better than his opposition, and opposition that advocate a more socially and economically liberal society, much as many in the US do today.  Fortunately for all free people, Mr. Churchill’s prophesies and the failure of his opposition were finally recognized, just in time to intervene at a time when the end of freedom was certainly a possibility.

From that prescient mind came the following tidbits…

“Some see private enterprise as a predatory target to be shot, others as a cow to be milked, but few are those who see it as a sturdy horse pulling the wagon.”

“We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.”

“If you have ten thousand regulations, you destroy all respect for the law.”

“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.”

“There is no such thing as a good tax.”

“The whole history of the world is summed up in the fact that, when nations are strong, they are not always just, and when they wish to be just, they are no longer strong.”

And, two of my favorite…

“You can always count on Americans to do the right thing—after they’ve tried everything else.”

“It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations.”
